What Is the Recipe Database?
The Recipe Database lets dietitians build their own recipes, use system recipes, and drop both into meal plans. Macros are calculated automatically for every recipe using a generic (brand-free) ingredient database.

302 Ready System Recipes Across 13 Cuisines
Vitena ships with 89 professionally prepared system recipes across four cuisines: Turkish, Spanish, German, and Dutch. They are available to every user and can be added straight to meal plans.
Each recipe includes:
- Name, description, and a professional WebP image
- Prep and cook time, servings, difficulty level
- Cuisine type and diet labels (vegan, gluten-free, etc.)
- Step-by-step instructions
- Auto-calculated macros
Build Your Own Recipes
When system recipes aren't enough, build your own recipe library. The recipe builder gives you:
- Name, description, image, time, servings, difficulty, cuisine, diet labels
- Ingredient picker: 523 generic ingredients (USDA-referenced, in 6 languages) or Open Food Facts products
- Step-by-step instructions (with timings)
- Gram-based quantities — macros calculate automatically
Generic Ingredient Database (523 Items)
Unlike brand-driven databases such as Open Food Facts, the generic ingredient database contains brand-free, universal ingredients — USDA-referenced, with names in 6 languages.
Why it matters: Dietitians don't put "Coca-Cola" into recipes — they use ingredients like "skim milk", "whole-grain bread", "boiled lentils". The generic database is designed for exactly that.
Customize System Recipes (Copy-on-Write)
When you change a system recipe — swap an ingredient, adjust portions, add a step — the original recipe is preserved. Vitena automatically creates a personal copy and saves your changes into that copy.
You can experiment freely with system recipes and build your own versions without worrying about damaging the originals.
Meal Plan Integration
Adding your recipes to meal plans is one click. While building a plan you can add a recipe to a meal, adjust the serving count (serving scale), and the macros recalculate automatically.
In the Client Portal, when a meal plan with recipes is viewed, all recipe ingredients are expanded automatically into the shopping list — duplicate ingredients are merged.
Search and Filtering
Find what you need quickly in a growing recipe library:
- Search by name
- Filter by cuisine (TR, ES, DE, NL, and more)
- Filter by meal type (breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc.)
- Filter by difficulty
- Filter by diet label (vegan, gluten-free, etc.)
